S13 Blog 1: Why do you think voting is important?

 

Hello, welcome to my first blog. I will talk about the importance of voting in Chile.

The commitment to democracy is exercised in many ways and one of them is the vote. This civic act makes us participants in the system and undoubtedly makes us owners of our future; it is the intrinsic manifestation of the will and personal desires that has nothing to do with belonging to a particular party or political alliance. Voting today is a right, an important responsibility and, considering history, also a privilege, especially for us women.

We have witnessed the low participation in each vote and perhaps the lack of interest in politics has a certain correlation between the voluntary vote and the collective disillusionment towards rulers and politicians in general; however, we must recognize the lack of incentives and, above all, the lack of civic education in the population. It is necessary that it be implemented in schools on a mandatory basis, according to me. Regarding compulsory or voluntary voting, I still do not have a clear position, I am still researching about it!
